Review: Marrow

Marrow Marrow by Aditi Brennan Kapil
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A haunting audio performance.

It took a while to figure out what was going on. A young journalist is thrilled to be given an assignment: to interview one of her favorite authors. Lili Novak, an aged writer of thrillers, offered to give a master class on creative process. Everything goes awry as the journalist discovers that Lili seems to have serious elder-problems and unexpected outbursts.

For the reader we're confronted with recordings of sessions between the journalist and Lili, most of which make little sense. The journalist is mystified and aghast as Lili rambles on about something that's supposed to be fiction.

Added to that, at times the journalist talks over the recordings.

You may find this hard to follow, but it is all part of an amazing performance of this horrifying audio-play produced by Audible.

By the end, you'll understand the whole story. You might even want to listen again.
